Daunt Rock, off Roberts Head was the scene of many wrecks and groundings, including ‘City of New York’ (1679 tons) on 29th March 1864 (total loss) and the liners Ivernia (24/5/1911) and Neptunia (4/11/1957) ( both salvaged), also HMS York (1815) and HMS Research (1867), and Victoria Cross (1886)

The Harbour Rock (centre left of scan) lies in the mouth of Cork Harbour, and beyond it in the distance can be seen (from right) The Daunt Rock, Lenny’s Rock and The Smiths Rocks (where the wreck of the “Aud” lies). The West Channel is visible on the right hand side of the scan
